Padum

Padum is a town speckled with bunch of tourist spots and is located 240 kilometers from Kargil town. It falls under the Zanskar sub-district. Padum is named after the founder of Tibetan Buddhism, Padmasambhava (also called Guru Rinpoche). It is the initial point for trekking and is particularly picked by many tourists.

Padum is located at a height of 3,657 meters with a fistful of villages. The best season to visit this place is summer and autumn, from the month of July to September. The town of Padum can fetch a picturesque moment etched in the enthralling vista. The fields of Padum are adorned with an enriching character of being able to change its color when season sweeps from one phase to another.

During the season of snowfall, you can capture a picture that can stumble into your post and still fit as right as rain. The monastery is under the maintenance of the younger brother of the Dalai Lama, it is also noted that Karsha Monastery is the most important Monastery in Zanskar dedicated to Padmasambhava. The monastery is filled with bunch of festivities yet the one that sparks with a unique trait is Karsha Gustor. Masked cham dances are performed during the festival with much fervor.
